Manchester United have officially confirmed their agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers to secure the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha.
The 26-year-old is set to be the Red Devils’ first major acquisition of the transfer window after the club activated Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause. Ruben Amorim is expected to welcome the prolific attacker as he looks to bolster United’s squad ahead of the new season.
Cunha is poised to sign a five-year contract with Manchester United, which includes an option to extend the deal by an additional year. The transfer remains subject to visa clearance and official registration and is anticipated to be finalized later this month once Cunha completes his international commitments. The forward was already in Manchester over the weekend to undergo a medical examination.
Having spent two and a half years at Wolves, Cunha signed a contract extension with the club in February and featured in 92 matches across all competitions. In the 2024-25 Premier League season, Cunha was Wolves’ top scorer, netting 15 goals in 33 appearances and contributing six assists — the second highest in the squad.
His creativity was unmatched at Wolves, leading the team by creating 57 goal-scoring opportunities. Cunha also registered 110 shots throughout the season, 44 of which were on target — numbers that outperformed all current Manchester United players last season.
Manchester United are eager to bounce back after their worst Premier League campaign, finishing 15th and scoring only 44 goals in 38 matches — a tally bettered by just a few teams, including Everton, Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton.
